The Best 23
Years ago, I collaborated with my friends at Gray Line Tours on a "Diners, Drive-In's and Dives"-like tour of Tucson's South 12th Avenue. It was a rousing success and it continues to this day (Book it here). Using my knowledge of the area's offerings and my own food snobbery instincts, I drew a map of where the country's best Mexican Food is located. My friends at the City of Tucson took my map and popped it in their GIS system and voila!, the 23 Miles of the Best Mexican Food in the United States was born. My good friends at Visit Tucson grabbed the ball and ran with it. They created an amazing website and have great printed maps for you to use. I have partnered with Tucson City Councilwoman Regina Romero on promoting both the South 12th area (La Doce) and the 23 Miles. In August of 2016, the City of Tucson made an official proclamation of these being the best 23 square miles of Mexican Food in the US. They have also signed the area, so you know you are entering Mexican Food Nirvana. The 23 Miles may be my creation, but the family businesses that make it happen every day impress and awe me every time I am in their restaurants.
